| A few words about our town Lauderdale-by-the-Sea... |
Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a unique sea-side village located on a barrier island with the golden sand rock-free beach within a large and growing metropolis that is South Florida.
The buildings in our town cannot, by law, be taller than 4 stories. This low height of buildings is what causes Lauderdale-by-the-Sea to be unique in South Florida. The beach area in Lauderdale by the Sea is not overly commercialized nor overly developed. So the beach itself is easy to access through numerous public beach accesses and it is also free of shadows throughout the day, and lacks the dominating condo buildings overlooking it. Unlike almost everywhere else in South Florida the atmosphere in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is peaceful and relaxing as a result of this underdevelopment of the beach area.
The atmosphere is rounded out by the fishing pier that is available either for fishing or sightseeing or walking at night, as well as by the restaurant area centered around the Pelican Square. Many of the restaurants in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea specialize in seafood so you can taste some of the delicious local fish such grouper, snapper and mahi-mahi. Many of the restaurants also offer lively bars with nightly live bands and music. There is even a free weekly event, Jazz on the Circle, with a live band playing by Village Grille on Friday evenings. As a result of all these characteristics of Lauderdale by the Sea many think of the atmosphere of our Town as similar to what you can find in the Florida Keys.
Nevertheless, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is by no means far away from civilization. It is surrounded by the cities and infrastructure of bustling South Florida, which means that malls, movie theatres, major league sports events, museums, concerts and night life are within miles and are easily reachable by car or bus.
