Shore Haven Resort Inn runs a Wi-Fi wireless network (compatible with 802.11b or B or 802.11g or G) that works over the entire area of our property, including inside our rooms, and it is free to use for our guests.
The speed of the network is up to 100Mb+, however, the effective speed of any such network is the same as the speed of the internet connection to which it is connected. So the speed of our internet connection is 2.5MB/s, which is the same as cable modem speed, which is 50 times faster than a dial-up connection, and this is the effective speed that you should expect here.
If your computer is not set up for Wi-Fi we employ a network technician who is able to set up for free a broadband connection to the internet on our guests' computers within 15 minutes on average. Most, if not all, new laptops have Wi-Fi built into them even if you have not used it before.
This connection entails unlimited and free web surfing and email. It works with browsers such as Microsoft Explorer, Netscape Navigator and email software such Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Outlook Express, etc. It is an "always on" connection that does not require dialing in.
This service is compatible with AOL, MSN, Earthlink, and most other dial-up and broadband ISPs as well as with typical corporate LANs. You would not actually be dialing in using your dial-up provider but you would be able to access your AOL or Earthlink, etc. account as if you were dialing in.
BUSINESS TRAVELERS: If you have a VPN on your laptop your VPN may or may not work with our network. We do not support VPNs. You should contact your IT department for instructions regarding VPNs on the road or they can call us and we can decide what to do. Also if you are bringing a company computer and if you do not have administrator's privilages on it then it will be impossible for us to install our network adapters on your computer. Please ask your company's IT department about this ahead of time. Generally speaking, however, we will try to help you to get it to work and if you were able to use a wireless network with this computer at Starbucks or at some airport or some other Wi-Fi hot spot then it should work here too.
REQUIREMENTS:
A Windows compatible computer or laptop. MACs also work if they come with a Wi-Fi adapter but we cannot make MACs work if they dont already work.
For Windows compatible PCs we supply the necessary network equipment free of charge. Please let us know in advance that you will need this service so that we can ensure that we have enough equipment to connect your computer to the internet.
